    winning your first day out

    Get to know your equipment

I won't deal with safety matters nor with how different markers work in this article. Listen carefully to what we tell you at the safety orientation. If we don't explain to how to use the marker well enough or if you have any questions, please ask before you play! We're there to help you out, and we all have to start somewhere.

Now that you have a marker and feel the urge to shoot some paint, be patient. Check the inside of the barrel, it must be clean and dry. Junk in your barrel causes the ball to pick up spin (a bad thing) and curve a bit like a pool ball with english on it.

NEVER EVER look down the barrel of a gun, unless the barrel has been removed OR you have removed the C02 / N2 source. If it is dirty we'll run a sqeegie through it for you!]

    Walk the field

You don't need to sketch a map, but you should know where strategic points are. Find stations where you can hit multiple enemy targets. Look for the central line. The central line is the place where the opposing teams will probably meet. Check out the main shelters and hiding places. Try to imagine where hostiles will attack from.

A good shelter will protect you from your opponent's paint while allowing you to see where the hostiles are coming from. If your main concern is to remain unhit, you might as well hang out in the club house listening to the radio.

A good idea is to look for a series of shelters that will allow you to move towards the enemy while staying out of the line of fire.
