Modified Power Stance
The modified power stance is a tremendously effective way to play from. It has three distinct advantages over all other stances. First it offers great stability. Not only will you be able to shoot accurately, you'll have great side to side movement which will help you avoid getting tagged. Second, you will be a MUCH smaller target. Unless you actually enjoy getting hit, this is a good thing. Third, you can move FAST from this position. This is the single most aggressive stance in paintball. The original power stance was created by team Dynasty way back around 2002 or 2003. Let's go over the original stance first.
The basis for the power stance is the gym squat. Keep your back straight, you feet shoulder width apart, and bend at the knees lowering your but down towards your heals. Keep your elbows tucked in and once you've got your knees bent to about a 45 degree angle you have arrived in the power stance. Feel the burn in your thighs? That burn is why I so seldom see the power stance on my field. You have to be in good shape to hold the power stance for any extended period of time. If you can, your opponents had better look out because you'll be fast, accurate, and hard to hit.
The modified power stance is very similar to the original, but instead of shooting like Wyatt Earp or Doc Holiday all squared up to the enemy, you turn slightly. You belt buckle should be somewhere between 35 and 55 degrees to the right (if you're right handed) or the left (if you're left handed). Turning this way makes you a smaller target while still retaining stability, speed, and accuracy. Most importantly it keeps you from getting hit in the nuts quite so often...
Be warned, this takes good conditioning to pull off.
